You won't see anything about this in the news, Displaced Supers. The government is keeping this on lockdown.

Yesterday, Earth 846's CIA Headquarters was shut down completely due to a security breach realized when a unknown set of keystrokes — what that was is still under investigation — compromised all Wi-Fi enabled electronic devices in the building. Monitors flashed and printers all began printing at the same time. The message was inconsequential and, quite frankly, the CIA would never admit to being on the receiving end of a hacker prank that resulted in such a childish and vulgar mocking message. On every page of paper and every television or computer screen in the building, in large, red letters, was printed:

At 1:00 pm EST on February 12, 2020 (this afternoon), H.E.R.O. Labs attempted to dose the city of Eglaf's water supply with Veritaserum, a substance from Earth 1652's wizarding community, which they've been holding in the archives in an effort to track down the true identity of wanted Displaced Super, Anonymous.

This process was meant to start small, just a microdose, and H.E.R.O. Lab techs intended to slowly increase the dosage over time in the hopes that residents would grow used to its effects and feel disinclined to ask too many questions. Ideally, law enforcement would be able to narrow down their gigantic pool of suspects — read...basically all residents of Eglaf, Florida — much more easily if everyone that was questioned felt inclined to be completely truthful.

However, there was an unfortunate...incident. Due to both human error and a miscalculation, the entire supply of Veritaserum was spilled into the local water supply instead. Due to the processing and distribution of the water locally, there could be a varied range of reactions, but worst case scenario, all traces of the formula will have moved through the water system and, as well, through the residents of Eglaf by the time they wake up on the morning of March 1.

Characters may have no reaction at all because they're especially lucky, they may be sporadically affected, or they might be affected for the entirety of the length of the top secret cleanup effort. That's up to you as a player.

Symptoms of ingesting Veritaserum may vary in intensity based on amount of consumption and can include:

Inability to lie in a believable way.
Extreme relaxation and/or brief flashes of paralysis.
Inability to lie at all.
Irritability.
Urges and inclinations to proactively share truths with others.
Upset stomach.
Headaches.
Inability to stop talking.
Paranoia.
